Cops identify victim shown being thrashed in video clip
The Jeddah police have solved the mystery surrounding the thrashing of a man by another, the video clip of which had gone viral.
It was a Herculean task for the police to search for the victim, who had not bothered to lodge any complaint.
The infamous Zamzoom video clip, which showed an individual stepping on the face of the man with his shoes on and beating him mercilessly, prompted the police to take suo motu action.
During their hunt for the victim, the criminal investigation and research division of the police in Jeddah searched 171 hotels and over 1,000 flats.
The police finally succeeded in identifying the victim, who took them to the place where the event took place. It was in a furnished apartment in the Al-Hamra neighborhood. The furniture matched with that in the video.
The attacker was a man in the 30s living in Riyadh. There was a third party — the wife of the attacker — who documented the attack. The victim claimed that the wife was already inside the apartment when he entered and he was soon attacked by the man.
Makkah police spokesman Ati Al-Qurashi said the video was seen on social media websites and it was their duty and responsibility to look into it as ordered by the region’s police chief, Brig. Usman Al-Souli.
Al-Qurashi said investigators identified the victim and there was cooperation between Makkah and Riyadh police departments to bring the attacker to justice.
