Exhibition focuses on Kashmiris’ right to self-determination
The event was held in cooperation with the Kashmir Committee Jeddah and the Pakistan consulate. The event was attended by Ambassador Abdullah Abdul Rehman Al-Alam, the special representative, envoy on Jammu and Kashmir at the OIC and assistant secretary general.
Others in attendance included Ghulam Mohammad Safi, a representative of the Kashmiri people, Pakistan Ambassador Mansoor ul Haque, Pakistan consul general Shehryar Akbar Khan, Masood Ahmed Puri, the president of Kashmir Committee Jeddah, OIC member countries, and members of the Pakistan community.
The Kashmir committee presented the resolution they adopted on Oct. 26 to Al-Alam. In his welcome address, Puri said the exhibition was meant to highlight the suffering of the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination. He urged the OIC to help resolve the dispute.
Al-Alam said it was important for talks to be held under the auspices of the United Nations to resolve the dispute, while the Pakistan ambassador said the alleged human rights violations in “occupied Kashmir” needs an intervention by the international community.
Pakistan wants to resolve the Kashmir dispute with India through dialogue and called on the Indian government to grant the people the right to self determination, he said.
