BEVERLY HILLS, California: It’s no secret Joe DiMaggio loved Marilyn Monroe.

Next month the public will get a close-up look at just how much when the intensely private baseball star’s anguished letter begging her to return to him goes on the auction block.

The letter, written after the actress’ announcement that they would divorce, is one of some 300 Monroe items being sold by Julien’s Auctions of Beverly Hills on Dec. 5-6.

Others include letters from Monroe’s third husband, playwright Arthur Miller, and a letter Monroe herself wrote to Miller.

Julien’s says Monroe, who died in 1962, left the items to her acting coach, Lee Strasberg. He passed them on to a friend whose family is selling them. The letters and other Marilyn memorabilia are expected to fetch $1 million or more.
