Early detection against breast cancer stressed
Seventy women walked through a local mall here recently to create awareness about breast cancer.
The Pink Fighter campaign was held to coincide with the worldwide breast cancer month held in October every year. The fashion house Femi9, Zahra Breast Cancer Association and Gold’s Gym organized the event that advised women on preventative measures and treatment.
The women who participated included businesspeople, journalists, volunteers and social activists.
Hiba Zahid, deputy director of Phenomenal, said the event was held to bring the community together on an important issue and to highlight the importance of exercise. “Walking is a healthy habit and can prevent many diseases and problems. That’s the message we want to pass on to the public, especially women,” she said.
Ghazal Fawazi, Jeddah branch manager of Femi9, said that many more women participated in the campaign this year.
She said Gold’s Gym also organized an event, Pamper and Protect, that saw trainers provide expert advice on nutrition and fitness. She said nutrition and therapeutic health consultant, Rowaida Idris, spoke about the benefits of healthy food and how it can reduce breast cancer.
“Idris also spoke about the importance of early detection, which can increase the chances of complete recovery. The participation of several dignitaries will help spread awareness, which is our main aim. We are very sure that this will help save many lives,” she said.
The participants thanked Eyad Mashat, chief executive officer of FAD International, which owns Femi9, for supporting the event.
