60 Saudi students train in patient care
More than 60 students from nine different prominent Saudi medical universities were trained in patient care by a leading Jeddah hospital.
Soliman Fakeeh Hospital helped students from King Abdulaziz University (KAU), King Saud University (KSU), the Ibn Sina College and Batterjee Medical College (BMC) in Jeddah, Taibah University in Madinah, Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah and institutions in Jazan, Al-Baha and Taif acquire first-hand knowledge on how to care for patients upon completing their education.
“Such training programs are vital in helping students get ready for the working world,” said Mazen Fakeeh, chairman of the board at Soliman Fakeeh and a consultant in internal medicine and diabetes.
This training is inclusive and integrated, instilling confidence in young and budding doctors on how to deal with patients, diagnose their cases and provide treatment, he said.
“The program lasted three weeks and will make a significant difference to quality in public and private health care institutions.”
Nizar Bahabri, also a consultant in internal medicine, said that the aim of this program was to give new doctors a chance to practice the profession.
Medical students study for four years or more, but they need to be subject to real life experiences to be able to effectively practice the profession, which requires hard work, study and continuous research, he said.
“Students from all nine universities will gain experience through working with medical professionals and medical staff.”
Young Saudis have the ambition and the hope to excel in this field, said Bahabri. The program will be held every year.
Faisal Basambal of KAU said that new ideas from the first round of students will help enhance the training program year after year. Amani Buqami, academic affairs administrator at the hospital, concurred that such programs promote medical services and enhance the performance of graduates from Saudi medical universities.
Fakeeh and Bahabri honored male and female program participants with certificates.
