The King Fahd Causeway Authority has signed a five-year operation and maintenance contract valued at SR168 million with the Kuwaiti-based Mudeer Contracting Co.

The contract involves comprehensive maintenance, examination and operation of the causeway from both the Saudi and Bahraini sides, including the facilities belonging to the island’s border patrol. The company is set to begin work in October.

Badr Al-Atishan, director general of King Fahd Causeway, said the contract was awarded to Mudeer Contracting Co. after a competitive bidding process involving many qualified companies.

He noted that the contract is expected to improve traffic flow on the causeway and deal with the growing numbers of commuters.

“The deal will reflect positively on the services provided to commuters and enhance workflow at facilities and government offices on both sides of the causeway,” he added.

The director-general indicated that the authority aims to use the latest technology to ensure high quality maintenance of the causeway and its infrastructure.

He explained that the contract includes the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical work on the causeway, such as power stations, telecommunications and water desalination plants, in addition to inspection of bridges and columns.
