EP kicks off festival

Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif patronized a regional festival that kicked off on Tuesday under the name “Asharqia Summer 35.”

The festival will last for 19 days and will run on Dammam and Alkhobar’s seafronts, Alkhobar’s Green Hall and Half Moon Bay, in addition to malls and housing gardens in Dammam.

Mohammed Al-Sufaian, official spokesman for the festival’s executive committee, said that the Eastern Province Municipality has geared sites up for the events, which will include two plays starring several Saudi talents.

“The festival that will have a variety of events for families, children, youth, people with special needs people and elderly residents,” said Al-Sufaian. The festival will include a cultural village at Dammam’s seafront that will highlight the region’s customs and traditions.

There will also be a ‘child’s village’ with a theater, atelier, cinema and children’s studio The festival’s executive committee contracted several chorus bands, including one from the Mahbooba channel and another from Spacetoon TV.

A comedy crew is also set to take part in the festival following its success in previous events.

Al-Sufaian said that the festival will dedicate certain functions for specific social segments, including special needs participants, elderly residents, teenagers and prisoners.

Special segments will also be organized for these segments at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for both boys and girls, old peoples’ homes, Dammam’s Social Observation House, Dammam’s prison and the recovery hospital in Dhahran.
