Work-from-home joy for govt staff

The Civil Service Ministry is planning to introduce a distance work system for government departments, especially for women, as part of the government’s efforts to create more job opportunities for citizens.

The ministry has set up a special administrative unit to figure out how to implement the scheme efficiently. Many Saudi women prefer the system because of transport problems and difficulty to keep away from children.

The ministry has identified computer-related jobs as well as accounting, translation, providing information, data entry and analysis and editing as some of the jobs that could be done through the system.

Ibrahim Badawood, managing director of ALJ Community Initiatives, welcomed the move, saying it would help save a lot of time, energy and money.

“We have already employed 300 women on the basis of this system to manufacture prayer carpets,” he told Arab News.
“This system is good for women, especially for those who do not want to keep away from their family,” he added.
Badawood said many jobs could be done from home with the support of computers and the Internet. “They include designing, editing and web designing. Salaries are given on the basis of productivity,” he pointed out. Women can also supply food required for parties.

He said the system would allow companies and departments to hire people living in remote cities and regions like Jazan and Najran. “Firms in remote areas can also make use of the expertise of qualified workers in major cities by applying the same system,” he said.

It will also help reduce the cost of transportation, electricity, office building and furniture. Students at Saudi universities across the Kingdom can make use of the system to earn some money while studying, Badawood said.
